Hey everyone, this is my first post in the forum so I would like to say hello! The reason I'm writing is to ask; is the Tegu right for me? I have been looking at getting a larger lizard for a while now. I already have a Chinese Water Dragon and an Armadillo Lizard so I don't think I'm biting off more than I can chew by considering the Tegu as my third reptile. I have a steady flow of income as of right now so providing for it wouldn't be hard. And I have enough space for a 12ft enlcosure that is 3.5-4ft wide, so I'm financially sound and I have the space for a small dinosaur lol. I've been looking at getting 1 of 3 new lizards. The Savannah Monitor, the Argentine red/B&W Tegu, or the Columbian Tegu. Does anyone have experience with a tame columbian tegu? From what I've read they get a pretty bad rep. What is the most difficult to tame out of my three? I'm not looking for something to cuddle with, but something I could "hangout" with. Something that won't try to bite and tail smack me every chance it gets. The only problem is that I work third shift so I wouldn't be able to handle it every single day, is that what's required to tame these lizards? If that's the case I might look elsewhere.
