My British Blues have hatched

1 day old 004.jpg1 day old 007.jpg I'm overjoyed, they're here. I came home from work the day before yesterday and went straight to the incubator and there was a cheeky little face looking back at me, what really made me happy twas that his little chap was from an egg I nearly discarded half way through incubation as it had developed a big crease and was smaller and a lot harder than the others. I did discard two others but now think I was a bit hasty. So I started off with 13 and 11 went full term. After seeing the first arrival i rang work and told them I wouldn't be coming in the next day. So yesterday I removed the egg containers from the incubator and placed them in the nursery vivarium to give the eggs lots of extra light to get them wriggling. They all felt really ready so I gave each egg a bit of a massage and within ten minutes they started popping out one after the other, wow they're lively when they're born. The last egg was taking too long so after about two hours i gave it another massage with no movement inside so I took the decision to make a small cut in the shell and rub the baby with my finger, hey a presto a little blue tegu woke up and was born in my hand, heaven. All babies are perfect and seem very healthy and active. I took their dad out for a walk in the spring sunshine. I've now joined a select band of brothers in the UK of Blue tegu breeders the other merry men being Chris Smith and Anthony Wade. It's looking like a good year for blues in europe as Renske Loogman also has two clutches cooking in the Netherlands. Lets increase that gene pool.
