I have been working with weasley for sometime now (I got him in April) He was about a year old when I got him. He was quite wiggly (still is) and really wanted nothing to do with me whatsoever. He is coming up on 2 and I am wondering if we are getting the "taming" thing right... allow me to describe our routine for you
I go to get him out of the cage and he jumps at first then looks at me like "omg what now" i scoot my hand under him and lift him up as I get him out he attempts to wiggle and death roll and I just let him he calms down and then he opens his mouth at me like AHHHHH i will eat you and i reach with my other hand and lightly close it for him and say ... do be silly close your mouth your breath is horrible... and then he tongues at me and I place him on my chest and he scrambles up and onto my shoulders and will occasionally attempt to jump down (but I do not allow him to fall ) then we go to the tub and I run his bath and he sits there like oh cool bathtime... I put him in the warmish water and sometimes he will just sit and enjoy other times he swims and other times he wigs out and tries to get away as fast as he can... generally I sit with him and pet him then I will go get his food ready while he soaks or clean his cage or whatever... anyway i come back to get him and if he is chillin with his eyes closed i won't mess with him but if he is looking for a way out I will reach in and pick him up to wet lizard death rolls... then he eventually stops and looks at me... i sometimes allow him to roam my room and explore and have left the food out on the floor for him to "discover" (i change it up for enrichment) he gets to be wild for a bit then i seek him out and pick him up (more death rolls and wiggles) and I put him back in his house ... he doesn't seem to ever want to snuggle with me or just sit in my lap and I have seen tons of other tegu want to do this with their owners.. are we on the right track or is there something more I should be doing... he is on aspen has a humidifier and a brand new exo terra solar glo 160 watt bulb (which i got at repticon for under 30 bucks! ) his temps are great per the gun his diet is pretty all inclusive (ps he loves kale... who knew?) fruit meat whole prey items fish supplements and because his tail sheds horribly he gets vitamin e massages 3 times a week... I am constantly reading about tegu and talking to some friends who have them (who sold him to me) I just want to know if I am on the right track and when are they considered tame? I want him to want to be near me ... (if he doesn't i will still keep him but will be sad) when does this drive to see their human kick in? suggestions? He hasn't bitten me yet (not for lack of threats) so idk what is considered "tame" and where we should be at 1.5 years old the .5 of that being in my care
