Hi guys, new to the community. I have a Arg Red tegu that's about 4 months old now.
When the hurricane hit NJ my power was out for over 10 days.
I picked up my tegu and his whole cage drove 20 miles to my uncles (he had a generator) and plugged him in the first day of no power
While there he really seemed lethargic, didn't eat much.
When i brought him home he seriously slowed down
I noticed he has not shed in over 3 weeks, he ate maybe 2 times in over 2+ weeks. and spent a lot of time under the substrate
Then he came out every day around 1pm and basked for a hour or two.
1 week later no sign of the little guy
after that week he came out, ate about 12 meal worms and drank some water. now i have not seen him since.
hes been under the ground for over 2 weeks and i am assuming its hibernation.
the only thing I'm worried about is I hear a trend that some tegus die in there first hibernation and being the way he was acting before hand I'm really worried could you help me out?
