After 8 years of waiting until I had the cash and space, I finally bought my first Tegu. I decided to make an account here as dont get many replies on RFUK when it comes to Tegus.
So heres what I posted there, any help would be wicked!
So I have this Tegu, hes got a wicked personality and I was informed upon purchase that he was 3 years old.
He seemed a little small for 3 years at 34" but in fine health so I took him home for the bargain price of £100.
Really happy with him, despite him habit of leaving the viv to crap on the carpet then going back to bask, my new rules is wait until poop happens in the viv before letting him roam all day, but this was thwarted today when he did half a poop, then the rest on carpet as soon as i open viv, will wait until i see full article tomorrow!!
Anyway onto the question, as hes kinda small and in theory adult at "3 years", he should be fed maybe twice a week, and will only eat as much as he wants to. But hes eating like a horse, active as anything and crapping like a champ!?
He ate a tomato, couple of strawbs, 3 chicks, 6 adult locusts and some adult dubias, and would have taken more if i had available. . . . and hes eating like this every day almost. I was worried about weight but he seems to be working it off as hes roaming for hours, climbing my bed, digging in his viv etc in between bask times which I upped a little. And hes by no means fat.
Is it possible now hes being fed good stuff (cat food was mentioned by previous) hes putting on a growth spurt?? Can they grow in their 4th year if he is 3 years old? I want a big happy Tegu.
