Hello. I'm 17, and have been a reptile owner all my life.

My most prized pet
The biggest reptile I've owned is my Red Tail Boa and I've had her most of my life. When I was starting about age 3, my Uncle let me hold his Red Tail Boa, and I was really intrigued and gentle with it. About the same time he went to college, my mom died of cancer when I was 7. Since he didn't have time for the snake, he offered me the snake as a present(it's 2-3 years older than me.) I've fed her moderately so she maintains a long lifespan, and shes now 19-20 years old at over 8feet(it's been over a year since I've measured her, its pretty hard to get an exact measurement.) Really good snake, I've only been bit once, and due to my own error. I tried to take her out of the cage after she was still frisky and I started her and she cranked her head around and sunk her teeth in my hand(didn't wrap, she just was scared.)

Tegus
I've had a strong desire for a monitor lizard or a Tegu for almost a year. I decided Tegu's were what I loved most. They're such beautiful, intelligent, and affectionate reptiles. Quite an extraordinary reptile. I've done some research, but I figure this was the best place to get accurate answers and advice. I hope to be a future- somewhat active member in this forum.

It will still be awhile until I get one, as I wish to be 100% sure I know all I need to know, and have absolutely all the equipment and such. First, I need to begin a project to build my future tegu's habitat. Rather than using a tank, I'd rather go for something that can be constructed. The dimensions of the area where I can build its cage should be approximately 8ft by 4ft by 2ft9in(length-width-height). What materials would be good to construct the cage out of?(would involve heating, closure, and whether or not the Tegu would be comfortable with the material.

However, I do have tanks I can use until it is of size in case the bigger cage stresses it out. (I plan on probably getting a Argentine B&W tegu)
